Berlin’s Deep-Tech Startup Escarda Technologies Is Shaking Up the Agritech Space
The Berlin-based deep-tech company Escarda Technologies is bringing its AI-powered laser-weeding technology into series production. With the acquisition by Berlin.Industrial.Group. (B.I.G.), Escarda is creating the conditions for the professional scaling of its systems.
Berlin, April X, 2026 – Escarda Technologies is taking the next step from a research-driven agritech startup to a professional growth unit. Escarda has been able to align its vision with that of its seed investor. With the acquisition by Berlin.Industrial.Group. (B.I.G.), Escarda is now entering the scale-up phase of its laser technology for chemical-free weed control.
Escarda has been developing a system since 2019 that eliminates weeds without herbicides. Using advanced camera technology and AI, the system identifies unwanted weeds and removes them in a targeted way with laser technology – precisely, automatically, and without chemical agents. The need is substantial: in many crops, avoiding herbicides has so far only been feasible through labor‑intensive manual work. At the same time, regulatory requirements are tightening across Europe when it comes to the use of pesticides.
From deep-tech prototype to series-ready machine
With its integration into B.I.G., Escarda is bringing together interdisciplinary teams in the fields of laser technology, AI development, data infrastructure and tracking systems, as well as final assembly at the highest industrial level. The system’s high‑performance components must interact with great precision in order to operate reliably under real field conditions – in dust, under vibration, and with constantly changing light.
The goal is to establish the technology at full series-production standard and to significantly expand production, service, and AI capacities. The next machine generation will be launched on the European market in 2026. The focus is on sustainable and reliable weed control for professional agricultural operations.
With this, Escarda is positioning itself as one of the technologically leading providers in the field of laser weeding in Europe.
“The technological foundation has been laid. Now it is about consolidating and expanding robustness, scalability, and service capability at a sustainable level,” says Marco Climaco, CEO of Escarda Technologies since August 2025. “From our base on the Tech Campus in Berlin, we can now scale with a long‑term perspective. I am pleased that I can contribute added value to Escarda by combining my experience from the Berlin startup world and from industry.”
For B.I.G., the acquisition is part of its long‑term strategy to develop technology‑driven companies. “Berlin has a strong startup scene, but the industrial environment for hardware and deep‑tech founders is still missing far too often,” says Jan‑Marc Lischka, Managing Director of B.I.G. Holding. “At our Tech Campus in Berlin, startups and global players work side by side on deep‑tech solutions – from medtech and energy to mechanical engineering and green tech.”
Alongside B.I.G.’s own ventures, external hardtech startups also plug into the Tech Campus, use the infrastructure, and benefit from direct, on‑site exchange with experts.
