Lasers Against Weeds: Escarda Technologies Begins Series Production Following Acquisition by Berlin.Industrial.Group.
Berlin, April X. 2026 – Gentle laser treatment instead of soil‑damaging herbicides: Berlin‑based AgTech company Escarda Technologies can now begin series production of its AI‑powered weed‑control system and gradually roll out the technology across Europe. This step is made possible by the full acquisition of Escarda by Berlin.Industrial.Group (B.I.G.).
Through its integration into B.I.G., Escarda gains access to specialized teams in photonics, software development, and industrial manufacturing. This collaboration ensures not only the quality of the system but also a robust service infrastructure for deployment in the upcoming seasons.
The weed‑control system combines laser technology, high‑resolution imaging, and AI‑driven plant recognition. It distinguishes weeds from crops in real time and removes them with pinpoint precision – without the use of chemicals. This opens up new opportunities for weed management, especially in labor‑intensive crops. Built as a professional laser system for real‑world field conditions, Escarda includes comprehensive machine‑safety architecture, a Class‑1 laser design, and documented safety protocols.
“We are bringing the precision of industrial photonics into agriculture,” says Marco Climaco, Managing Director of Escarda. “After extensive field testing, we are now entering the scaling phase: we are building machines that can withstand continuous, heavy-duty use.”
B.I.G. also sees significant potential in the integration: “Escarda has proven that laser technology works reliably in the field. We are now ensuring that it can enter serial production and become widely available,” explains Jan‑Marc Lischka, Managing Director of B.I.G. Holding. “We are investing in a technology with the potential to redefine standards in weed control.”
This year, the company will focus on ramping up production and building an international dealer and service network. The goal is to provide farms with a ready‑to‑deploy alternative to conventional crop‑protection technology, supported by regional partners and secure spare‑parts supply.
